The Bureau of Land Management accepted winning bids on 60 geothermal lease parcels across Nevada totaling 186,641 acres for $4.83 million in receipts, the agency announced.

Parcels are located in Lyon, Churchill, Mineral, Humboldt, Esmeralda, Lander, Nye, Eureka, Lincoln and White Pine counties. The sale supports domestic energy production under current federal priorities.

Bonus bids, rentals and future royalties will be shared among the U.S. Treasury, the State of Nevada and the counties where the leases sit. Thirteen parcels received no bids.

Leasing is only the first step; any exploration or development must still meet National Environmental Policy Act requirements and other legal standards. BLM manages geothermal resources on extensive public lands and subsurface mineral estate in the West.

Local grazing, water and wildlife interests in the Gabbs-Hawthorne corridor should monitor subsequent applications through the BLM National NEPA Register, as surface use could intersect existing allotments or travel routes. Details are available on blm.gov.
