The National Weather Service in Elko and Reno both carried blowing-dust language this week for the basins along State Route 361. Visibility on the Gabbs stretch can drop in minutes when a north wind lifts the playa.

Drivers coming down from Middlegate toward town, and south toward the U.S. 95 junction near Luning, should expect sudden brown-outs rather than a steady haze. Pull off only if you can get fully clear of the travel lane. Do not stop in the roadway.

The Record desk files this as a standing seasonal notice, not a closure. NDOT had not posted a hard restriction on 361 at press time. Conditions change with the afternoon wind.

If you are running Pole Line toward Tonopah, the same dry fetch applies. Carry water. Night travel is clearer when the wind lays down.
